La Jolla visibility today: C, waves 4.4 seconds apart

Beta model, 10 to 14 feet, medium confidence. About a 56 percent chance the letter holds.

Pull into the Cove. Wednesday, November 4. The Dive Pro beta model calls visibility 10 to 14 feet and stamps it a C. That line is the Wednesday row in the ten-day forecast, generated Tuesday at 12:21 PM Pacific. The latest single-day file is still dated Tuesday. Ten to fourteen feet means you can see your buddy and the kelp. You cannot see the far reef from the stairs. Confidence is medium.

C is about 56 percent. The most likely line says 0.56. That means C shows up a little more often than not. D is 28.1 percent. B is 15.9 percent. F, A, and A+ are zero.

Surf is 4.59 feet, about 4.6 at the beach. Primary swell is 3.35 feet from the west-northwest, about 3.4, every 4.4 seconds. Period is the gap between crests. 4.4 seconds is short, so the waves stack and lift sand. Under that, a west swell at 1.9 feet, just under 2, every 12.2 seconds. Wind wave is 0.79 feet every 1.85 seconds, about three quarters of a foot of chop. Elevated surf can stir the shallows. Wave energy is on the lower side.

Wind is in miles per hour. Morning is 3.0 at 6 AM, 3.5 at 7, 2.8 at 8, 2.4 at 9. It jumps to 8.4 at 10 and 10.2 at 11. That is the daylight high. The day's max is 10.5 at midnight. Noon is 7.9, 3 PM is 5.6, 5 PM is 3.8. Gusts, the brief faster bursts, top out at 13.9. Direction is 309 degrees, northwest, between west and north. Best window is early to late morning, before the jump. The risk list says afternoon wind may texture the surface. The afternoon hours are lighter than 11 AM.

Tide heights are NOAA La Jolla, station 9410230. Height is how high the water sits on the beach, in feet. Midnight is 0.46. The hourly peak is 5.05 at 6 AM. Noon is 1.28. 6 PM is 4.49. A reliable tide direction is not in the file. No slack times are listed.

No rain is forecast Wednesday. The day is 0.0 inches. The prior three days hold 0.146 inches, about fifteen hundredths. Seven days add up to 0.319, about a third of an inch. The model's note says surface movement, wind mixing, and nearshore rain block a clearer B.

The camera does not get a vote. It shoots in daylight only. Tuesday's 4 PM slot failed upstream. The latest frame that came in is Tuesday at 12:09 PM, and the grade is empty.

This is a beta model. It has not been validated. It's the guy in the next parking spot who memorized the buoy report. Look at the water yourself.
